Battle of the Migraines Day 3: Puffed Wheat & Naan

Day #3 of the Battle of the Migraines:
Laura 3, Migraines 0
Things I have learned thus far:
  • I was definitely addicted to sugar cause I had a REAL headache from the sugar detox. (Which was weird cause I was thinking, "What is going on? My head hurts a little but I can think, fuction, look at light, hear loud sounds and smell without wanting to puke...oh it must be a normal real headache...haha...sad I know.)
  • All bread has sugar...according to my experience of reading every bread label on the shelf and finally according to our baker friends at Fresh Market the reason is that yeast needs something to react with/attach to and that would be sugar.
  • Naan (Indian flat bread) is also made with sugar unless you are a super spy label hunter...(that's me).  Yes, I found TWO types of Naan that do not contain sugar or HFCS or any of those anti-inflammatory sneakies.  YAY!  Super pricey...looking into making my own...haha say a prayer for me okay?

Naan...kinda like Flat Top bread...oh Flat Top I love you.
  • I can live 3 days without chocolate and no one has died from not eating cake.
  • My husband rocks at being supportive and is really good at telling me "No chocolate!"
So....3 days with no sugar, no artificial sweeteners, no preservatives, no white flour, and finally no high fructose corn syrup...I thought I was doing so well (and honestly I have done way better than I would have thought) until I started thinking about the meals I had made thus far.  All of a sudden it hit me!  I didn't check the tomato soup label last night when I made my Turkey Stuffed Peppers!  Yep, there it was...the dreaded HFCS!  But it's ok.  It's a learning process and it certainly wasn't purposeful so it's time to hit the delete key for stuffed peppers on my menu of anti-inflammatory meals.

Boo!!  Sadness!!  Why must you have HFCS???

This made me re-examine the rest of my recipes and nixed the Chicken with Wild Rice recipe because it calls for Cream of Mushroom Soup, which contains MANY preservatives.  Also forgot that BBQ sauce has sugar so also nixed Turkey Meatloaf.  But it's all good because I've found some replacement meals with shrimp, tilapia, and chicken.  I'll be sharing them with you all this month so get excited!!  Tonight's meal is...drum roll....Black Bean Turkey Tostadas!  Say that 5 times fast...lol. :)

By the way, I found a cereal that is sugar free/sweetener free...Puffed Wheat!  This is funny only to those who know my grandma very well.  When she was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes she was instructed to eat Puffed Wheat, which she so lovingly referred to as, "My ol' puffies"...as a kid I thought they were absolutely the most bland food in the world.  I must have been a smart kid, because they are still the most bland food in the world.  However, they are pretty tasty with milk and strawberries.

On a side note, I've been painting again and will post pics soon!  I tried birds sitting on a tree branch...they are fat little guys and not exactly sitting up straight, but they are my birds and I love 'em!  :)
