The "Bump"

No silly...I'm not talking a baby bump!  I'm talking about a hair bump without having to use any sort of contraption.

Men, this is where you are allowed to stop reading, "x" out and go back to reading something of interest to you...unless you have little girls or exhausted wives who just have no more energy to "do their hair".  If that's you, then I invite you to continue reading :)

So anyway, lately I've had numerous people ask me how I get my hair to do this bump thing.

I wonder why no one ever asked me how I did my bangs in 4th grade...??

That's me on the left..."ARE YOUR BANGS REALLY PERMED?" you ask.  Why yes, yes they were.  "ARE YOU BOTH REALLY WEARING TURTLENECKS?" Yes again.  They were stylish and warm.  The best of both worlds in 1992.  I remember being very envious of my best friend Erica's bangs.  As you can clearly see from the picture, they were indeed far superior to mine.

It's not too difficult to do this, so here's my tutorial on how to make a bump with your bangs.
(It doesn't really matter how long your bangs are with this style. Just make sure they can touch your nose when you pull them down.)

Here's to many happy hair days!

Jamberry Nails!

I am way excited today because of my new Jamberry nails :)  How cute are these??!!  I got a TON of compliments on them.  This picture was taken after spending an entire day cleaning in my classroom.  Pretty impressive isn't it?

So many times I just paint my nails and the first hour I get a chip or smudge.  Polish just doesn't seem to last for me, so this is the perfect solution!  They are high quality nail shields that are applied with heat and pressure.  The shields are pretty easy to apply.

I'm so excited because I'm going to have a nail party where we are going to have a Relay for Life fundraiser with my friend, who is a consultant.  They are supposed to last 1-2 weeks on fingers and 2-3 weeks on toes.  Each person will go home with a full set of nails that we apply at the party for only $7.50!!!  Sweet deal!  If you want to be a part of our fundraiser/party contact me via Facebook and I will send you the details.

I feel like I'm making a commercial...lol.  Sorry, but I just love these things!
They are great for summer and most importantly they make me happy and I hope they make someone else happy too:) :)

Cilantro Crock Pot Chicken & Homemade Taco Seasoning

I have been getting frustrated with my hair lately and just don't know what to do with it.  Limp, no umph, no real style, too many layers, blah, blah, blah...you know what I mean.  Anyway, I have been toying with the idea of getting a perm.
The style now is long, sleek and straight, but eventhough my hair is straight, it takes a lot to get it sleek.  I need a wash and go type of style so I finally decided just to go for it and got a textured wave, which uses the biggest curlers a perm can have.

Here's how it turned out...

I love it!  It's fun and fresh...just what I needed.  Wash, gel, scrunch and go!  YES!

Here's kind of a cool shot of the back.

Another huge plus on the textured wave is that I didn't have to get my hair re-highlighted.  The curls hide the roots.  YAY for saving money! :)

In other news, tonight's dinner is Cilantro Lime Crock Pot Chicken.  My house smells awesome!  I think I'm going to serve it up on tortillas with some rice.  Mmmm...here it is cooking in the crock pot.

Whew...just had a lil' taste and it is spicy!  Tom will be happy. :)

Oh Mexican food...I love you.  That's some spicy chicken dip over in the right hand corner.  I made it for girl's night on Friday and it went over REALLY well...I will have to post that recipe later.

Slow Cooker Cilantro Lime Chicken
Ingredients:

12-ounce jar medium salsa
Juice from one lime
¼ cup fresh cilantro, chopped
1.25-oz. package taco seasoning
1 jalapeno pepper
3 boneless chicken breasts, defrosted

Directions:
1. In a slow cooker, mix together the salsa, lime juice, cilantro, taco seasoning and jalapenos.
Add the chicken and coat with the salsa mixture. Allow the chicken to cook, covered, in the
slow cooker on Low setting for 6 hours. Serve chicken with salsa mixture spooned over top,
or shred and use as a taco filling.

I'll try to add more pics of when it's done and has a nice presentation.

Also, the only taco seasoning I can ever find has sugar so I made my own today.  Here's the recipe for taco seasoning.

Homemade Taco Seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
Directions
1. In a small bowl, mix together chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, red pepper flakes, oregano, paprika, cumin, salt and pepper. Store in an airtight container.
Enjoy!
